The U.S. Air Force has announced plans to inactivate the 87th Air Base Wing at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and transfer its manpower, infrastructure and mission to the 305th Air Mobility Wing, a tenant unit at JB MDL. This change will take place effective summer 2027.
According to the joint base public affairs office, “This action reflects a deliberate decision to increase operational readiness, streamline command and control, and optimize mission effectiveness at JB MDL.
