  • The complete SandPaper digital archive (stories date back to 2012).
  • Full photo galleries from our photographers.
  • The entire catalog of SandPaper games, puzzles and quizzes.

How it works

  • Enter your email below and click to pay the one-time $18. Card details are entered on Stripe’s secure page.
  • You’re in straight away — no password to create, and nothing to set up or manage.
  • You stay signed in. If you’re ever signed out, or you read on a new phone or computer, we’ll email you a code to get you back in.
  • Never auto-renews. Your pass is good for one year. We will email you when it expires so you can renew if you’d like.

See our site policies for more information.

Next you’ll go to Stripe’s secure page to enter your card, then you’ll return here.

Copyright

Everything on this site is copyrighted. © 2026 The SandPaper. All rights reserved.

Read it, print it, and share links to it freely for your own personal use. Republishing our work — copying an article onto another website, into a newsletter, or reprinting it — needs our written permission first. Contact us to request it.

Using This Site

This is a newspaper, not a forum. Nothing posts to this site directly, and there are no comments. Letters to the editor and other submissions are welcome — send them to us and, as in print, our editors decide what runs and when. What the site itself collects from you is an email address, if you sign up for a newsletter or buy a pass, and a name to go beside your score if you play one of our games. Please pick a name that is fit to appear on a public leaderboard.

Bulk downloading, scraping, crawling or otherwise copying this site by automated means is prohibited, as is any attempt to circumvent the pass. This includes collecting our work to train machine-learning or artificial-intelligence systems.

Your Pass and Your Account

A SandPaper Annual Pass is tied to the email address used to buy it. There is no password to create or remember: when you need to sign in on a new phone or computer, we email you a one-time code. Please give us an address you can actually receive mail at, and keep that mailbox secure — anyone who can read your email can sign in as you.

A pass is for one person. Please don’t sell, transfer or share it. We may end a pass that is being shared, or used in a way that disrupts the site for others.

If you think someone else has used your pass, or you lose access to the email address it is tied to, contact us and we will sort it out.

Subscriptions and Refunds

The SandPaper Annual Pass costs $18 and runs for one year from the day you buy it. It never renews automatically and your card is not stored for a future charge. We will email you when it expires so you can buy another year if you would like to.

Passes are non-refundable. The full digital archive opens the moment you pay, so we do not offer refunds, part-refunds or pro-rated cancellations. There is nothing to cancel — a pass simply ends after a year.

If something isn’t working, or you believe you were charged in error, please write to us.

Privacy

In plain terms: this site does not track you.

  • No analytics. No Google Analytics, no Google Tag Manager, no Facebook pixel, no advertising trackers, no session recording.
  • Nothing loads from anywhere else. Every image, script and typeface is served from this site itself, so no outside company learns that you were here or what you read.
  • No cookies while you read. We set a cookie only when you sign in with a pass, and only to keep you signed in.
  • We count reads, not readers. We keep a daily total of how many times each story was opened. That is a number, not a list — no addresses, no identifiers, nothing tied to you — and it is discarded after about forty days.

What we do hold. If you subscribed to a newsletter or bought a pass, we hold the email address you gave us and, for a pass, its expiry date. We use it to send you what you asked for, and for nothing else. We do not sell, rent or share it. Every newsletter carries an unsubscribe link that works immediately, and you can ask us to delete your address altogether.

Our web server keeps ordinary access logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. Our game leaderboards keep the name you type and your score; to stop one person flooding a board we also store a one-way hash of the address you connected from, never the address itself.

Changes to These Policies

We will update this page whenever the site changes in a way that affects it. Last revised November 3, 2026.
