Screenings of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” have long been a huge part of the Halloween season. This year, though, is particularly special. Wouldn’t it be nice if a moment of silence was observed before the show begins because actor Tim Curry passed away at his L.A. home on Aug. 25 at the age of 80?
Curry was an accomplished stage actor, being nominated for three Best Actor Tony Awards and a Laurence Olivier Award – the British equivalent of a Tony – for Best Actor in a Musical. He also won a Daytime Emmy Award for a children’s show and and a Grammy Award for a spoken record.
Still, he will always be remembered for playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter, “just a sweet transvestite from Transexual, Transylvania,” onstage in London and then reprising the role in the 1975 film adaptation. An absolutely unforgettable performance.
Southern Ocean County residents will have two chances to see “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” this fall.
The first will be at Bird & Betty’s in Beach Haven, at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16. The Bellarine Theatre Co. will once again screen the film and, of course, audience participation and costumes will be encouraged.
Tickets are $15, but there’s a $20 option as well that will give you not only admittance, but a prop bag as well. All seats are general admission. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at bellarinetco.com. However, doing so will incur a $1.60 fee for a ticket only or $1.85 for the second option. Folks can avoid the fee if they wait to purchase tickets at the door, where they can pay with cash or a check.
This event is for people 18 years of age and older.
The second will be at the Lizzie Rose Music Room in Tuckerton. The Lizzie Rose is holding a “Halloween Spectacular” on Friday, Oct. 30. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show will start at 7:30.
There will be a costume contest, and a band called The Wag will play a concert of Halloween-themed songs such as “The Monster Mash,” “Ghostbusters,” “Spooky,” “Time Warp” and more. After the live show, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be screened.
General admission tickets are $35 and may be purchased online at lizzierosemusic.com. Front row seats go for $65 while second-row seats are $55. Don’t wait to see if there will be tickets at the door – there is limited seating at the venue, so you may be shut out.
