“Sometimes the smallest towns have the biggest hearts, and Harvey Cedars is certainly proof of that.”

So said Lori Plumstead, program coordinator for “Evolve Pink,” after seeing the Harvey Cedars’ Pink Light Up campaign in October. The statewide initiative’s purpose is to fill New Jersey with pink light in honor of everyone impacted by breast cancer.

“This is exactly what we hoped for when we started Pink Light Up,” said Plumstead, “one community inspiring another, people coming together, and those beautiful pink lights reminding everyone that they’re not alone.”

Based in Flemington, the organization notes on its website, Evolvepink.org, that it provides “programs that support with compassion, empower with education, comfort with holistic modalities, build supportive community, and bring powerful individualized healing experience to women and families affected by breast cancer.”

Harvey Cedars Mayor John Imperiale, who coordinated the effort with Plumstead, said, “Harvey Cedars is especially thankful for all the great businesses and residents who participated in the Pink Light Up campaign.” He said driving around town in the evening, one could see bright pink lights shining at Neptune Market, Foodies, Azzurri Italian Cucina, Neptune Liquors, the Freeman Group and many homes throughout the borough.

Plumstead sent a special message to Imperiale to be shared with Harvey Cedars residents and the community at large: “Please, if there’s anyone in your community affected by breast cancer who could use a little extra love or support, don’t hesitate to have them reach out to me. We’d welcome them into our Evolve Pink family with open arms!”
