Exactly this week last year, I wrote in Liquid Lines about how summer’s days were numbered and we should all be making the most of them. To quote that column: “Just go surf; doesn’t matter how good the waves are. Then find some kids playing Spike Ball. Challenge them to a game. Go really hard. Make diving plays. Those kids will love you – or at least have a great story about the intense Spike Ball stranger when they go back to school in a few weeks.”

The point I was making last year was we needed to make the most of what we had left.
