It was the mid-1940s; international conflict was nearing an end overseas. Here on Long Beach Island, Ann Hoffman cashed in a war bond to purchase a few chic dresses to sell to friends from her home in Beach Haven.
“That’s how this all got started,” remarked Jessica Hoffman, Ann’s daughter-in-law, who, eight decades later, is the longtime owner of The Island Shop in Brant Beach.
