More than 200 competitors took to the water last Sunday evening for the sixth annual Barnegat Light Ocean Mile Swim, which benefits the borough’s beach patrol. Twenty-year-old Greg Macchia, a member of the patrol, took first with a time of 28 minutes, 19.03 seconds. Fellow Barnegat Light lifeguards Mike Smith, 23, and Mike Macchia, 15, followed close behind, finishing in 28:21.50 and 28:45.13, respectively.
BLBP’s Caren Guyett, 25, swam the mile in 28:48.66, good for fourth overall and first among women.
