To the Editor:
Some residents of Holgate can give thanks to the Surfrider Foundation at the beginning of this holiday season. That’s because the local Jersey Shore Chapter of Surfrider turned out dozens of volunteers to plant dune grass in the southernmost developed section of Holgate, specifically at Washington, Harding and Roosevelt avenues. Not only did they turn out the volunteers and get thousands of dune grass plants into the ground, Surfrider bought the grass themselves!
Dunes built by nature offer the best protection for coastal storms and erosion.
