The state has issued an alert on one the rarest fish a-swim in our waters. It reads “NJDEP Fish & Wildlife has received recent reports of Atlantic sturgeon sightings in our waterways. … DO NOT attempt to handle, remove, or interact with sturgeon.”

GOOD SHOOTIN’: Vince Balas (Planet Blue Surfboards) went hands on with a large selection of gamefish hanging around the jetty rocks of Barnegat Inlet. He took a huge fluke and a legal-sized striped bass. (Photo by Jay Mann)

Sturgeons are upper-end endangered. If accidentally caught, anglers must profusely apologize to the fish and tenderly release it with words of encouragement, such as “Go forth and multiply.”
