Environmental groups throughout New Jersey are joining the Murphy administration in applauding the significant decrease in plastic litter one year after the state implemented a law restricting single-use plastic bags and straws, and limited use of other products, including paper carryout bags and polystyrene foam food containers.

Gov. Phil Murphy signed the “Get Past Plastic” law (P.L. 202, c.117) in 2020, and the measure took effect on May 4, 2022.
