When a local speaks of the “The Big One” hitting LBI, our Island-centric minds default to a weather event of monumental, even 500-year, proportions. Sandy is now considered a 100-year storm; you do the math. However, there might be a whole other “big one” in the offing, closer to a 150-year event, when thinking in earthquake terms.

Most of us rightfully shrug off quakes as far-elsewhere happenings – seismic things befalling overseas places or the likes of Callie or Alaska.
