Sometimes as I do research for a series I come across an unrelated but interesting article that gets me to thinking. That’s what happened as the series on detective Ellis Parker was drawing to a close.

Born in 1870, by 1930 Parker was the chief of the Burlington County detectives. He had won fame nationally with his ability to solve high-profile murder cases. He was the subject of several magazine articles that had given him the nickname “The Sherlock Holmes of the Pines.”

His connection with Ocean County and Long Beach Island was lifelong.
