A crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light rescued four people and a dog moments before the 30-foot recreational vessel they were on capsized in bay waters near Forked River Aug. 27. No injuries were reported.

The 29-foot response boat crew had just completed the transfer of the individuals and the dog when the sinking vessel disappeared into the water, Coast Guard officials said.

“The boat’s owner believes the boat was taking on water due to a loose plug, but the compartment was not accessible to confirm,” said Chief Warrant Officer James B.
