Riley Schmidt didn’t really know what to do as she rounded second base on June 12.
Letting out a yell of excitement wasn’t the appropriate response, considering the Barnegat softball team was down by eight runs. But it was a great way to end a solid career, so she just went with a half-smile and open hands at her sides, as if to say, “Yeah, that’s insane.”
