To the Editor:
Mr. Green’s Trump Derangement Syndrome (“Dangerous Rhetoric,” 10/14) has reached new heights. For anyone to think that President Trump would actually state and mean that Los Angeles and San Diego should be “taken out” is beyond belief. No president including Trump would ever believe that should be done.
President Trump has always stated that his belief is that America should come first in everything. Mr. Green goes on to say that “he (President Trump) is no longer exercising judgment compatible with the office.”
He moves on to suggest that the 25th Amendment should be invoked and that the 25th Amendment was designed for when a president’s conduct demonstrates an inability to discharge the powers and duties of the office. He further states that inability would include the mental stability, impaired judgment or behavior posing a direct threat to the nation could warrant action. He concludes that Trump’s Nebraska remarks meet that threshold.
If there was ever a president where the 25th Amendment should have been enacted it was President Biden. For one example, just go back and review the debate to see that President Biden was not capable of discharging the powers and duties of the office. His inability to complete sentences and his inability to form cognitive statements was clearly evident during his debate. Did Mr. Green come out and recommend that the 25th Amendment be used on President Biden? I truly doubt that he did.
Were President Trump’s words meant for an adversary to attack these two cities? Absolutely not and he has clarified his statement publicly so that it could not be misconstrued. His rhetoric can be above board, but it was just rhetoric. He did not truly mean for an adversary to attack these cities or any other place in this country. The rhetoric in this instance comes from Mr. Green.
