After a 1-1 start to the Babe Ruth World Series, the Pinelands Panthers 12-and-under softball team closed out pool play with another two-game split and qualified for elimination play as the second seed out of the National division.

In doing so, head coach Chris Johnson’s Panthers drew the third-place team from the other side, the American division – a squad from Opp, Ala., which had gone 0-4 in pool play with a -19 run differential, including a 9-3 loss to Pinelands the day before, on Aug. 7.

Sadly, the tide turned quickly on the Panthers.
