The Patagonia brand was not a newcomer to the waves when it entered the surf market in the mid-2000s. Patagonia’s roots started with Yvon Chouinard, a California climber and surfer.
He began his career making gear for rock climbing, then apparel for the outdoors, specifically for activities in challenging elements. He founded Patagonia in Ventura, Calif. in 1973 and became a leader in durable gear, but also in ethical business practices.
