When Jaime Ryan left The Cheese Shoppe in Beach Haven on Friday, Sept. 25, he expected his store to be closed for one day and then he would assess the rest of the weekend. By Saturday, kayakers were paddling past the windows, floodwater had risen to about a foot or two inside the building, and refrigeration equipment and merchandise were ruined.
“As far as Surf City goes, we’re luckily high and dry,” Ryan said Sept. 27 of his business’ original location.
