To the Editor:

There is a famous saying: “Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.”

Let’s look at our past involvement in Vietnam. Back in the 1960s a ship full of everything you could think of would dock at a port in South Vietnam. Off-loaded huge piles of supplies sat on the docks, to be used by our troops and sent to help the hamlets. Every day the piles shrunk (stolen), leaders of villages were paid, commanders of Vietnam’s military would say they had 100 troops, but 20 really didn’t exist.
