To the Editor:

Despite taking all the recommended precautions – raising the thermostat, opening cabinet doors and trickling water into the tub – we, like so many homeowners, had a pipe burst during the recent cold snap.

As water gushed into our garage we frantically called our plumber, who told us to call Long Beach Township. It was after hours and we didn’t have much hope. But within a half hour, a police officer showed up with two water department employees, Jimmy and Vinny.
