The Long Beach Island branch of the Ocean County Library in Surf City welcomes springtime with an ancient art and folk tradition that symbolize renewal.
Ocean County native Jennifer Santa Maria will conduct a workshop in pysanky egg decoration at the branch on Saturday, April 15 at 10 a.m. Often called Ukrainian eggs, pysansky egg art features multiple stages of colored dyes and patterns drawn with hot beeswax. Colors protected beneath the wax are revealed as each layer is removed.
Pysanky is derived from the Ukrainian verb pysaty, which means “to write.”
