The artist known as Jules Jewels is Julie Gaupp of Little Egg Harbor, and her niche is surf-inspired art on trucker hats, which she makes primarily with acrylic paint and Posca paint markers.

“I just like the way I can get seamless, vibrant color blends on the fabric,” she explained. “A lot of people think I use airbrushing, but it’s all by hand.”

As soon as she could hold a pencil, she knew she loved drawing. Although the heavy-handed stick-figure cats she carved into the coffee table did not amuse her mom, art has always made Gaupp happy.

Growing up, family nurtured her artistic pursuits, she said.
