In 2012 during Superstorm Sandy, Joe Valyo walked into the borough to volunteer to help. His background as a fire marshal and in emergency services soon became noticed.
Shortly after he became a councilman for Ship Bottom. He has been an invaluable asset ever since. Joe Valyo is the chairman of building and grounds and community affairs. In that department he eliminated waste and saved money without diminishing services.
