The Ocean County Health Department’s 18th annual FurFest and Halloween Pet Parade will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the Southern Ocean County Animal Facility in Manahawkin.
Pet parents and their families are invited to bring their costumed companions for an afternoon of Halloween fun. Registration begins at 1 p.m.; the parade and costume judging kick off at 1:30.
“FurFest has become a wonderful Ocean County tradition that brings families together in a way that is both fun and memorable,” said Jennifer Bacchione, Ocean County Commission deputy director and liaison to the Ocean County Board of Health. “There is something special about seeing the creativity people put into their pets’ costumes and watching everyone enjoy the afternoon together. Whether you come to participate, cheer on the contestants or adopt one of our adorable cats and dogs, FurFest is a great way to celebrate the Halloween season.”
Pets must be leashed or securely crated throughout the event.
Four-legged participants will have the chance to compete for prizes and ribbons in several fun-filled categories. There are Scariest, Best Group, Funniest, Most Original, and the prestigious Best in Show competitions.
There really are no losers because every participating pet will go home with a goodie bag stuffed with treats. However, there could an opportunity to be the biggest winners of all – a chance for the kittens, cats, and dogs at the facility to meet families considering giving them a forever home.
Every dog and cat adopted at an Ocean County Animal Facility receives a veterinary examination, age-appropriate vaccinations, spaying or neutering, and a microchip.
The Southern Ocean County Animal Facility is located at 360 Haywood Rd. For a preview of available pets and more information about pet adoption, visit oceancountyhealth.gov, click on Services, and then click on Animal Shelters, Adoptions, and Pets.
