To the Editor:

In the throes of domestic chores, it hadn’t occurred to us that Gracie had disappeared. This isn’t the typical “dog decides to explore” story.

For one, Gracie is absolutely besotted with me, rarely letting me get a wet nose length away for more than a few minutes. The second is she can’t see. She can detect movement and seems to make out shapes (although for her a baby stroller or rolling suitcase looks enough like another dog to get her hackles up), but for all intents and purposes she’s blind.
