To the Editor:

Last week, a retired American Baptist pastor wrote a letter titled “Lest We Forget.” I agree with the title. We should not forget. We need to remember, and thoughtfully consider the wisdom of the past. Pastor Smith quoted Martin Luther King. I would cite John 7:51: “Does our law condemn anyone without first hearing him to find out what he is doing?”

Pastor Smith referred to “a tense, divisive year and blatant acts of mob violence on our Capitol incited by a seated president.”
