This is the second in a series.

Ellis Parker was born in 1870 and became Burlington County’s chief of detectives in 1897. Eventually he would become one of the most famous law enforcement officers in the entire country; his specialty would be murder cases.

He was an avid duck hunter who was married to Cora Giberson, a Manahawkin girl, at the local church in February 1901. It was in the days before the wedding that Parker became involved in one of his most famous cases.

The story begins with the discussion with a neighbor about the weather.
