On Gov. Murphy’s final day in office, he signed a bill creating the strictest e-bike regulations on Earth. The law eliminates New Jersey’s previous three-class system, lumping slow, pedal-assist bikes with powerful, motorcycle-like “e-motos.”
Low-speed e-bike users will now be required to have a driver’s license and spend hundreds of dollars per year on state registration and insurance. On top of that, there is a one-year ban on online e-bike sales.
