Congressman Jeff Van Drew is doubling down on urging New Jersey officials to declare a disaster emergency along the Jersey Shore, citing extensive beach erosion  since July and claiming outgoing Gov. Phil Murphy’s office has denied such a need exists.

“A major declaration is not necessary to address this situation. You should issue a state disaster declaration and declare a state of emergency for the Jersey Shore,” Van Drew said in a Dec. 15 letter to Murphy.
