Officials in Barnegat Light will consider bestowing a name on the most recently washed-up dead whale: a young male endangered fin whale measuring 51 feet in length and weighing about 25 tons, according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center. It had suffered a fatal blow by a vessel before washing up on the beach Friday, Feb. 20.

The body was buried deep under the 25th Street beach. The whole incident cost the borough an estimated $18,000.
