To the Editor:
At the Brant Beach Homeowners Association meeting last month the township stated that the local fire department purchased a new truck that cost a million dollars. The fire department is volunteer.
One of my neighbors suggested that the members of the fire department position themselves at the entrances to the beaches at taxpayer-sponsored events – for example, Fire Pit Fridays and the Saturday night concerts – and ask for donations.
That is brilliant. After all, taxpayers pay for the performances that people from off the Island and other towns enjoy. Why not ask them to support our fire department?
