Three years ago, 10-year-old Matt Kulpa took second place in his age group in the annual home run derby competition at the Philadelphia Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park. Slugging apparently runs in the family, as his younger brother, 11-year-old Ryan Kulpa, recently came in third among eight young hitters in the final round at the Phillies’ home park.

Bob Kulpa, the youngster’s father, said Ryan earned the journey to the City of Brotherly Love by placing first in a local qualifier.
