On Dec. 9, the 64th annual Long Beach Island Surf Fishing Classic officially came to a close. A total of 688 surfcasters participated in this year’s “LBI Derby” with just 40 striped bass registered into the nine-week contest. A rather lean surf run along the entire Jersey Coast led to lower than average striper weigh-ins in this year’s Long Beach Island surf fishing tournament, and not a single bluefish.
