To the Editor:
The recent news that a new restaurant/bar and liquor store will be built on the former site of Kubel’s 2 (and before that the venerable DeFreitas bar and liquor store) is most welcome. There was a time when that part of the Island, from 79th Street south to 87th Street, had seven restaurants: Ott’s, The Blue Noodle, Pinky Shrimp’s, Joey’s, Kubel’s 2, Charles Seafood Garden, and Luciano’s. It will be nice to have a new local spot in walking distance.
