The Long Beach Island Commemorative 18 Mile Run is a staple here. It’s been part of the Island’s fabric for more than five decades.

“The fact this race has lasted 50 years is a testament to all the volunteers and, of course, the runners who keep coming back to make it such a special event,” said race founder Bill Fitzpatrick several years ago. “It’s come a long way since that first race with 78 people.”
