As of this past Saturday, April 6, trout season is open in New Jersey. The state Department of Environmental Protection has already stocked waterways with 180,000 rainbow trout, as well as larger broodstock, for anglers of all ages eager to get out there and cast.
By the end of the spring stocking season, more than 570,000 rainbow trout will be stocked in waterbodies across the state, with most trout averaging 10.5 inches in length and weighing about a half pound each.
