When Summer Sprague was visiting the Hawaiian island of Kauai, she visited Jo Jo’s Shave Ice in Hanalei. There are three locations throughout the Islands, and she was completely enthralled with the taste and the vibe.
“I thought, ‘We have to do this at home. There’s like no Hawaiian-style shaved ice on LBI.’ When we went back again in November, we went back to Jo Jo’s.”
When Sprague returned form the second trip, she was passing through Beach Haven on her way to go surf and noticed an empty building for rent on Bay Avenue. She thought it was a perfect place to start a business.
