Recent rainfalls have taken Southern Ocean County out of the “extreme drought” category, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

David Robinson, state climatologist from Rutgers University, said the extreme, or D3, rating was placed on the area last November. The rating was the result of a 9-inch rainfall deficit running from May 7 through Nov. 7.
