While parched Southern Ocean County welcomed Monday night’s rainfall, more significant precipitation is needed to push the region out of its current drought status.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Southern Ocean County is in the D2, or severe drought, stage. The southernmost portion of the state, Cape May and Cumberland counties, is in D3, or extreme drought.
