Out on the bay with a yellow, smiley-face flag was a small boat filled with candy: Airheads, Skittles, Starburst, even gummy sharks, in lieu of real ones.
Michael Sadowski, vice commodore of Barnegat Light Yacht Club, had the ever-important responsibility of being “The Candyman” for the day, lobbing little bags of treats to kids as they crossed the finish line, many of whom were racing for the first time.
